Calendar Not Showing on button click

I'm having an issue with the DatePicker control in that when I click the button, the text area disables, but the calendar does not appear.

This is reproducible, but it's only when I'm loading the a value into the control on a not-postback load.

Not Postback Empty (today's date) -- Calendar will appear
Postback from another control, loads a db record date-- calendar will appear
non-postback, load db record date into the control -- calendar will not appear

but this behavior is only occuring in one of the three datepicker controls found on the page. Any idea why?
